Vinyl vs. Laminate Flooring: Which Is Best for Your Home?
Vinyl vs. Laminate Flooring: Which Is Best for Your Home?

Vinyl can range from stiff and hard to comfortable and reliant, depending on the material used for the core. It is completely waterproof
making it a good choice for many different spaces.
Laminate was one of the very first synthetic alternatives to natural hardwood and is water - resistant but not fully waterproof. Vinyl and
laminate are also comparable in prices as vinyl can be around $1 to $5 per square foot and laminate around $1 to $7 per square foot.
If you have pets in your home the choice leans towards vinyl as since its waterproof capabilities help with any pet messes that
you may have.
They are both durable, long-lasting floors. With good care both can last anywhere from 10 to 25 years on average.
The choice is ultimately yours and what your flooring needs are. If you need a fully waterproof floor, or have pets,
vinyl is going to be the better choice.
How do vinyl and laminate flooring differ?
Vinyl flooring is made of 100% polymers, no organic content is used. Its core material is plastic.
Laminate is made from mainly high-density fiberboard made from wood byproducts. Vinyl is
entirely waterproof while laminate is water resistant but not waterproof. Cleaning is also where
these two differ. Vinyl can be cleaned by using a wet or dry mop due to its water resistance.
Laminate, however, cannot be we mopped and can only be dry mopped.
